Between October 2014 and February 2015, Margaret facilitated the Project Advisory Team for a proposed mountain bike trail in the Cheasty Greenspace area of Seattle. This has been a highly contentious process for Seattle’s Parks Department. Opponents argue that the Greenspace will suffer severe environmental harm from the trail, while proponents argue the importance of providing safe and healthy access to the outdoors for an underserved area of the city. Meetings of the 12-member Project Advisory team were typically observed by some 50 members of the general public. The Team, made up of both proponents and opponents, reviewed preliminary trail designs, commented on an environmental assessment of the trail’s impacts, and created a set of evaluation criteria.
